About Towhee
Camp Towhee is a member of the Ontario Camps Association (OCA) and employs individuals that believe in and uphold the OCA core values. Camp Towhee/Towhee Summer Therapeutic Program treats youth with Mental Health issues complicated by Learning Disabilities. Located in Haliburton, Ontario, Towhee positively changes the trajectory of kids and staffs lives. This will be one of the most rewarding, magical and hardest places you will ever work. We provide 12 days of training covering behaviour management, counselling skills, CPI, mental health and learning disabilities.

Who we need
The successful candidate should be a driven individual pursuing a career in healthcare, with a passion for caring for and supporting children/youth, and the capacity to adjust their approach to meet the physical and emotional needs of campers. Under the direction of the Healthcare Supervisor, the Healthcare Assistant is responsible for assisting with all the various health and wellness needs of our campers, and when needed staff.

As our Healthcare Assistant, you will:

  1. Providing medical and emotional care to campers, and staff when necessary, and acting as a primary first responder in more serious medical emergencies.
  2. Discerning between physical and psychosomatic distress and implementing the best intervention to match.
  3. Providing mental and physical health education to campers and staff when necessary for their continued health and wellness.
  4. Organizing and running the Health Centre with the help of the Health Team Supervisor as per OCA and Towhee policies and procedures.
  5. Administering camper medications as required.
  6. Assisting in other areas of the camp by providing direct support and supervision of campers during mealtimes, evening programs, bedtime routines and night supervision as able.
  7. Working as part of the overall staff team by participating in the planning and implementation of special, camp-wide theme programs and activities.
  8. Adhering to and interpreting for other staff and campers about the policies, practices, and procedures of Camp Towhee.
You bring
  • One (1) or more years of a healthcare related post-secondary degree or equivalent professional experience (nursing, paramedic, etc.).
  • Practical experience in providing healthcare/first aid in roles such as lifeguarding, ski patrol, first responder, hospital placement, etc.
  • Experience working with children and/or youth.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR C or greater.
  • Must have/acquire a current and valid police record check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful and aware manner with groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences..
Working Conditions
  • Fast-paced camp environment with frequent interaction with campers, staff, supervisors, families, and visitors.
  • As needed, the requirement to lift children (up to 45 lbs.) and assist in the movement of children (up to 200lbs.) in a medical emergency, in addition to bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing, pulling, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs
  • Noise level can be moderate to loud.
  • Intermittent physical activity including sitting, standing, walking, running, lifting, and generally

Camp dates are as follows:
  • Supervisors Training: June 15th - June 17th
  • Departure date: June 18th, Transportation from Toronto to Towhee will be provide 
  • Pre-Camp, All Staff Training: June 19th - June 30th
  • Session 1: July 4th - July 17th
  • Session 2: July 20th - August 2nd
  • Session 3: August 5th - August 18th 
  • Staff onsite for Cleanup: August 18th 12:00 PM until August 20th at 5:00 PM, Transportation form Towhee to Toronto will be provided

Round-trip bus transportation from Toronto to Haliburton will be provided at the beginning and end of the camp.


Contract Period
  • Start date: June 14, 2026
  • Contract end date: August 20, 2026
  • Compensation: $5,000 for the term of employment, including a base salary of $3,250 and a completion bonus of $1,750 at the end of the contract. Room and board are included at no additional cost.
