About Towhee

Camp Towhee/Towhee Summer Therapeutic Program supports youth with mental health challenges complicated by learning disabilities. Located in Haliburton, Ontario, Towhee creates lasting, positive change for campers and staff. Working at Towhee is a uniquely rewarding and transformative experience. We provide 10 days of comprehensive training covering behaviour management, counselling skills, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), mental health, and learning disabilities.

Who we need

We are seeking an Office Administrator to join our dynamic Camp Towhee team. Reporting to the Camp Director, this contract position runs from June 23 to August 21, 2025.

As the Office Administrator, you will oversee the camp office's daily operations, ensure administrative tasks run smoothly, and support camp logistics. You will manage schedules, answer phone calls and emails, organize documents, coordinate transportation, and assist with financial record-keeping.

This role also offers opportunities to engage with campers during the day and in the evenings as needed, depending on camp needs and your areas of interest. We are looking for a team player with strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and a passion for supporting children and youth.

As our new Office Administrator, you will:

  • Provide administrative support, including managing phone and email communications, typing documents, ordering supplies, and driving to town for camp-related errands.
  • Organize and oversee the smooth operation of the Camp Towhee office.
  • Coordinate transportation logistics and book buses as needed.
  • Greet and direct visitors, volunteers, and external guests.
  • Assist with bookkeeping and maintain an organized accounting system.
  • Support the directors, supervisors, and staff with daily camp operations.
  • Manage the scheduling of staff coverage and assist in coordinating shift assignments.
  • Assist with photography and social media content creation as needed.
  • Maintain camper records and databases using CampBrain and EMHWare.
  • Participate in camp activities and interact with campers as needed.
  • Uphold and communicate Camp Towhee’s policies, practices, and safety procedures, ensuring a structured and welcoming environment for all.

You bring

  • Two or more years of post-secondary education or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Previous administrative experience, including managing schedules, records, and communication.
  • Experience working at Towhee or a related camp program (strongly preferred).
  • Experience working with children and youth, preferably those with mental health and learning challenges.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise good judgment when making decisions.
  • Bronze Cross swimming certification or higher (preferred).
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification.
  • A current and valid police records check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Valid G-class driver’s licence with a clean abstract (preferred). F-Class licence is considered a significant asset.
  • Ability to work respectfully with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced work environment with frequent interaction with campers, staff, supervisors, and visitors.
  • Managing concurrent and dynamic deadlines, despite conflicting priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • May require lifting children (up to 45 lbs.), as well as bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing, pulling, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs.
  • Noise levels can be moderate to loud.
  • Frequent physical activity, including sitting, standing, walking, and general mobility around camp.

Contract Period

  • Start date: June 23, 2025
  • Contract end date: August 21, 2025
  • Compensation: $4,550 for the term of employment, including a base salary of $2,800 and a completion bonus of $1,750 at the end of the contract. Room and board are also provided.
