Who we are

Children are at the front and centre of what we do; they are the foundation of our purpose and the basis for our evidence-driven strategy. Our mission is to transform the lives of children, youth and their families by developing and delivering innovative, research-based mental health and early learning programs. At the Child Development Institute (CDI), we are passionate about helping our communities’ most vulnerable members and their caregivers. It motivates each of us to face what can be difficult situations while continuously finding the purest joy in play, in silence, in advice, and in the unbelievable strength and resilience of our young clients. Joining us now is a rewarding opportunity to be part of an organization that is built on a legacy of more than 100 years of helping children and families.

Recognized as a leader and model for measurement-based impact, we are client-centred, family-centred, and data-informed. We are a place where professionals grounded in mental health, care, and well-being of infants, children and youth, come together in collaboration, learning and inclusion. As a multiservice organization delivering social, emotional, and behavioural counselling services, early childhood education, learning disabilities and mental health services, and family violence services, we address the whole person from when they begin their life. Every child and family that reaches out to us is unique, and we value and embrace their individuality. We deliver the tailored support and tools they need to build life-long skills, positive mental health, and resilience. With their trust in us, we guide children and families along a supportive journey. It is an often difficult path and simultaneously the most rewarding experience for providers, children and families.

Who we need

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Communications and Operations, we are hiring a Marketing and Communications Officer. In this role, you will support the execution of our marketing and communications strategy by delivering high-quality internal and external communications, digital content, and marketing materials. Your focus will be on day-to-day content development, channel management, and coordinating communications initiatives that advance organizational priorities.

You will play an important role in ensuring consistent brand application, accessible and inclusive communications, and the timely delivery of materials that support program awareness and impact, stakeholder engagement, fundraising, governance communications, and organizational change initiatives.

This existing vacancy is a full-time, hybrid position working three days onsite and two offsite per week.

Who you are

You are a strong communicator with excellent writing skills and a practical understanding of marketing and communications. You can translate complex information into clear, engaging content while maintaining consistent brand standards across channels. Organized and self-directed, you are comfortable managing multiple priorities in a small team environment. You are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization supporting children and families.

What’s in it for you:

Profound purpose. You will join a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families. As part of the Marketing and Communications team, you will help build awareness of our programs and impact through thoughtful, well-crafted communications. Your work will support a wide range of audiences, from clients and community partners to donors and staff, through materials such as program brochures, digital content, and contributions to our annual report.

Influence and ownership. This is an opportunity to bring your creativity and communications expertise to a role with real ownership. You will help plan and execute digital communications across multiple channels, including social media and campaigns that support program awareness, fundraising efforts, and key registration periods. Your work will help ensure consistent messaging and strong brand alignment across all communications.

Growth. You will expand your experience across a broad range of marketing and communications activities while working closely with a supportive manager who values mentorship and new ideas. You will collaborate with a thoughtful, mission-driven team committed to making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve.

As our Marketing and Communications Officer, you will:

  • Develop and deliver marketing and communications materials. You will draft, edit, design, and publish content aligned with our organizational strategy and brand standards, including newsletters, website updates, social media posts, digital content, presentations, reports, and internal communications.
  • Support integrated communications initiatives. You will contribute to campaigns and communications initiatives across internal and external channels. You will also support media monitoring and assist in preparing communications materials as needed.
  • Uphold brand standards. You will ensure communications are clear, accurate, accessible, and IDEA-aligned. You will maintain and update digital platforms (e.g., website, email platforms, social media), verify visual and editorial consistency across materials, and coordinate the production of marketing collateral with internal teams and external vendors. You will track and organize communications assets, templates, and brand resources.
  • Assist with leadership and organizational communications. You will support the preparation of organizational updates, presentations, and communication materials for internal audiences, senior leadership, and governance. You will also contribute to change management and organization-wide communications initiatives.
  • Collaborate across teams. You will work closely with Fundraising, Programs, HR, and Operations to support communications needs and project delivery. You will contribute to IDEA-related communications, engagement activities, and reporting in collaboration with HR and leadership.
  • Coordinate communications projects. You will manage timelines, inputs, and approvals for communications deliverables and support special projects related to marketing, communications, and organizational priorities.

You have:

  • The experience. You have experience in communications and digital marketing, ideally within the nonprofit sector. You are a strong writer with an eye for visuals and can use content, research, and graphics to communicate clearly across channels. You bring a portfolio demonstrating your ability to draft, edit, and format communications for websites, email, and social media. You understand brand standards, accessibility considerations, and the fundamentals of graphic design, and are comfortable working with templates, design tools, and vendors.
  • The project coordination skills. You can plan and deliver communications initiatives with multiple stakeholders, setting clear timelines and managing tasks, approvals, and deliverables. Ideally, you have experience supporting communications during periods of organizational change.
  • The technical skills. You are comfortable working with Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite or Creative Cloud, WordPress, and a content management system. You are quick to learn new tools and technologies.
  • The drive. You are organized, responsive, and able to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You hold yourself to high standards of ownership and accountability, exercise sound judgment, and adapt quickly as priorities evolve.
  • The collaboration skills. You build strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners, including vendors, designers, and communications service providers. You share our commitment to accessible, respectful, and values-aligned communications.
  • The flexibility. You can travel to other organizational sites for meetings and events, including occasional evenings.
